We also would like to recognize two people who have made the Kids Closet their passion. In 2008, Michelle Finney had the dream to start collecting a few clothes in the unused closets of her workplace to help out kids who had been removed from their homes without their belongings due to circumstances beyond their control. Being able to give them new clothes was our way of helping restore them with a sense of pride. If possible, we tried to find items that they expressed interest in or items that were similar to “now gone” items that held personal value to them, in hopes to ease the troubling transition.
Over the years, it has grown to a stand-alone building on the property of Friends in Christ Lutheran Church in 2013. Soon after a shoe closet was added to make more room in the main building. Then, Pat Baker took over for Michelle by organizing volunteers to maintain the closet and encourage local churches and non-profits to help with donations. She also started collecting a few household items whenever she knew a family was in need. This meant the once "huge" space the closet was quickly became too small for the need in Saline County. So Pat advocated to the Rotary Club how great of a need the expansion was and helped raise funds to make the expansion possible.
On September 10th, 2020, the Bryant Rotary Kids Closet officially opened with a ribbon cutting with the Greater Bryant Chamber of Commerce. Present at the ribbon cutting were rotarians, closet volunteers, Friends in Christ Church members, other church members who donated regularly to the closet and chamber ambassadors. Bryant Rotary also presented funds raised from the 2020 Duck Derby to Imagination Library of Saline County and the Bryant Boys and Girls Clubs.
